Our focus extends to families and unconventional skiers, but we also cater to experienced, long-term, and committed enthusiasts. At Saami's Ski Shop, our promise is simple: 'You Belong Outside.' We provide high-quality ski equipment and services for all, from beginners to experts. Specializing in expert boot fitting and durable equipment, we're here to support your love or soon-to-be love for skiing and the outdoors. When you step into our shop, you're not just a customer; you're a valued member of our ski community, and we're dedicated to helping you thrive in your outdoor adventures.
Coming from Sydney, Australia and San Diego, California, our family was not a skiing family. The only seasons Samantha (my wife) and I knew were cold summer and hot summer! But we loved Utah and the outdoors, so we settled here to raise our family.
Just before Christmas of 2010, we decided it was time to embrace the winter. Nyman's, a local ski shop, helped us find ski equipment on sale that worked for our family. That first year on the slopes was a whirlwind, with us as rookie parents trying to master skiing while also teaching our 6, 4, and 2-year-old children. Sam may have shed a tear or two on Alta's rope tow as she balanced herself and a toddler. But with the help of this amazing ski community, our family found its groove. Our first day on the slopes with all the Butterworths up and going on their own is one of our core memories.
The next year, our daughter saw the Sundance race team training and wanted to join. We figured, why not? When our new ski friends at Nyman’s told us it would literally be cheaper to buy our children a pony, we giggled. When they told us that volunteering as ski team coordinators was either insane or nobly misguided, we chuckled again but moved forward.
With support from this little ski community, we became a skiing family, then a ski racing family, then ski shop owners.
We’ll never forget the kindness we experienced at Nyman’s. With no judgment about our experience or lack thereof, Nyman’s immediately made our family welcome. When we had an opportunity to partner with them and purchase their store,
it was a no-brainer. That experience is what we hope to provide to everyone who comes into Saami’s, so they'll know that they belong – both in our shop and outside on the hill.
